Plan on Dong Van ancient quarter approved

dong van 4 (Hanoitourist) - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has approved a project on restoring Dong Van ancient quarter in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang.

The ministry also requested priority for restoring damaged houses where people are living in 2013 by the capital of the National Objective Programme on Culture.

The ministry asked the Ha Giang provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to hold a press briefing on the project.

Dong Van ancient quarter is situated in Dong Tam village, Quyet Tien commune, Dong Van town. There are about 40 ancient houses in the quarter. About 20 houses were built at the beginning of the 20th century. With specific cultural identities of the people in northern Vietnam, the Dong Van ancient quarter was recognized as an artistic architectural relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

This is also an important point in developing tourism to the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark in Ha Giang province. Over time, the ancient houses were damaged. Therefore, several households in the ancient quarter wanted to receive support from the state to restore the houses./.
