Phu Quoc receives first direct flight from northern Europe
According to the Airports Corporation of Viet Nam, after a fact-finding trip at the Phu Quoc airport, the Swedish partner decided to open a direct air route to the island in March under charter flights.
The flight on March 8th is the first of three scheduled direct flights carrying passengers from northern Europe to Phu Quoc in March 2016. As planned, there will be weekly flights from December 2016 to April 2017.
The launch of the direct route will contribute to developing tourism in Phu Quoc and meet the increasing demand of tourists from northern Europe to travel to the district island, said the Phu Quoc airport.
Earlier, in January, Phu Quoc launched a direct route from Guangxi with three weekly flights. Phu Quoc is also receiving international flights from Singapore and Siem Reap (Cambodia). The flight connecting Moscow (Russia) to the island began in February 2014 but was suspended in early 2015 due to few passengers.
Currently, Phu Quoc has more than 6,000 hotel rooms. The island expects to have 15,000 rooms by 2020 to be able to serve 2.5-3 million tourists a year. The 30-day visa exemption for foreign tourists to the island contributed to attracted a large number of holidaymakers.
