1. Pha Din Pass (Son La, Dien Bien provinces)
Locating in Ta Phin Plateau system, Pha Din Pass is considered as the boundary between the two provinces of Son La and Dien Bien with a total length of 32 km; and one of the "four great passes" of the Northwestern region of Viet Nam.
The pass has very rugged terrain, a steep cliff sides, one side is deep chasms. Pass on halfway translucent clouds often obscure, passes beneath the village is sporadic. However, at the highest point of the pass, 1.648m, compared with the sea level, visitors can have unforgettable experiences of the grandeur of nature between "heaven and earth".
2. Khau Pha Pass in Yen Bai Province
Khau Pha Pass is one of the sloping, hazardous supply lines across the highest mountain pass in Mu Cang Chai – the peak Khau Pha. It is also famous crooked and steep grade of goods in Vietnam. The pass is especially dangerous fog on the day because there is not any traffic sign or warning.
Along the pass are primeval forests, a plentiful of rare animals and terraced fields of local Hmong and Thai people. Between September and October is the best time to explore Khau Pha Pass, when rice are ripe and ready to harvest.
3. O Quy Ho Pass in Lao Cai Province
Across the magnificent Hoang Lien Son range of mountains, O Quy Ho Pass, the unorthodox "King of Northwest Pass" holds the record for a length of up to 50 km and the top of the pass at an altitude of nearly 2.000 m, known as "Heaven Gate".
O Quy Ho Pass is a major challenge for long-distance drivers, by providing dangerous roads, a deep abyss in one side and other side, high mountains. However, if overcome fears and climbed to, tourists will have the opportunity to admire the clouds floating like a fairy realm.
4. Spectacular (Ngoan Muc) Pass in Ninh Thuan Province
The length of Spectacular Pass is approximately 18.5 km with an average slope of 9 degrees, the largest pass the slope of the southern province. The pass runs along the steep slopes of the valley Ninh Son connection with the Lang Biang Plateau.
Along the pass are green forest, waterfall and white clouds. True to its name, the mountain pass spectacular will conquer all people to the majestic scenery, rugged but poetic and romantic. Due to obstacle terrain, the pass becomes a favorite route for backpackers travelling from Da Lat to Phan Rang.
5. Ma Pi Leng Pass in Ha Giang Province
As a long stretch of road about 20 km with 1,200 meter altitude, Ma Pi Leng Pass is located in the Dong Van Geoparks which is recognized as the global geoparks. The Pass the "Happiness" road connecting Ha Giang, Dong Van and Meo Vac town, being famous for the "King" of the Vietnam's pass or Great Wall of Viet Nam or the Pyramid of the Meo.
Scenery in Ma Pi Leng pass is unique with majestic and wild beauty. Looking to the north and northeast, thousands of gray mountains concatenate to the horizon. Next to the road is abyss and the Nho Que River in the below. November 16th 2009, Ministry of Culture, Sport and tourism of Viet Nam decided to classify Ma Pi Leng area as scenic relic of Viet Nam.
The pass is well known for providing a clear winding road from the mountain to another mountain. This is probably the reason visitors are often called Ma Pi Leng is the king of the most dangerous stretch of road in Viet Nam.
